It was the end of WWII; there was a new energy in America as the nation started to realize the new opportunities that came along with the victory of war.

Boating was starting to migrate from the east coast to the west coast in the 1940s. In 1946, the Port of Los Angeles opened up waterfront for the development of marinas. Bob Duni and Ed Rabbit, who were both engineers working for BF Goodrich, could see the potential a marina had to offer.

After much work and sacrifice, Yacht Haven Marina was created in the Cerritos Channel area of the Los Angeles Harbor. Yacht Haven began as the 112 slip area “Dock 1,” and opened for business sometime in late 1946. Later, we added an addition 50 slips on “Dock 2.” In the early 1960s the Marina Café building was added, as well as the yacht sales office, which is now Seacoast Yacht Sales.

Tony Duni, Bob’s son, joined the marina in 1974. He took the business a step further and developed a yacht brokerage business, Heritage Yacht Sales, in San Diego, Newport, Long Beach, LA Harbor and San Pedro. Heritage merged with Seacoast Yacht Sales in 2016 and now covers the Coast from Santa Barbara to San Diego.

Yacht Haven Marina now has a third generation family member, Sarah Duni Bourland, who has been running day-to-day operations since 2013.

We believe in responsible use of our natural resources and operate Yacht Haven under the Clean Marina program, and work to help protect the local boating and marine environment. We believe in boater safety and education, and we are members of the Alamitos Sail & Power Squadron. Talk to us about upcoming classes in navigation, boating safety, and other related topics.

We are members of the Marina Recreation Association that provides continuing education and industry updates on all related marina industries. The MRA now provides educational programs for the marina owner and training opportunities for their management staff.

We are boaters and we care about the environment because it is where we work and play. There is no comparison to the liberation and freedom we feel when enjoying our boat out on the blue Pacific. Yacht Haven Marina works hard to rid the marina area of any pollution that may negatively impact the beautiful California waters, keeping animals safe, and your boats safely afloat.
